Minister for the Colonies has asked me privately whether

His Majesty's Government would be prepared to sell to Portuguese

Government at once four fighter reconnaissance seaplanes (Osprey

or similar type, preferably new) which are urgently required at

Macao owing to present situation in Far East. He believes we have some spare machines at Hongkong and if some of these could

be spared this would be ideal solution. Otherwise valuable time

would be wasted owing to necessity of shipping machines to Macao.

Please telegraph urgently whether any machines can be supplied and if so at what price. If my answer is favourable

request for supply of machines will be made officially by

Portuguese Government.

Please repeat to Paris by bag for Air Attaché.
